👀 First some context…
It’s Max here 👋. If you didn’t know, I run 💯 School. Growing up my tech skills were pretty bad. That’s until I started asking the “dumb” questions I was always too scared to ask - and ever since, I’ve been turning the answers into free challenges for anyone to learn tech skills (in less scary, more fun ways). Hence #100daysofnocode & #100daysofai.
I’m also a solo-founder. And get told a lot…”Max! You should get some extra help calling the shots”.
That’s where you come in.
We started as a Twitter hashtag. No curriculum, team or mission. Just me in lockdown trying to learn a new skill. Community was the only thing that kept me going. And I want to continue building this thing with you, the community - because without it, well…it wouldn’t be a thing; only an idea.
That’s why I’m going to use this little corner of the digest to share 1 x win, lesson and update/question with you every week. Like a board meeting but way more casual 😅. Thankyou 🙏
💯 WIN
We turned 4 this week 🥳
As a project that was never intended to be a business from the get-go, it’s cool we’ve made it this far. Especially as a fully boostrapped, impact-first company that started on nothing but a pro-Zoom subscription in lockdown. Reflecting on how far we’ve come was an advert break compared to the series of questions I started asking myself: why haven’t we had more impact by now, what are the revenue streams we can unlock that will increase our capacity to grow, how can we make this year really count etc…?? Be clear on what business you want to build 👀
At university I wanted to build a unicorn startup. But for all the wrong reasons. Part glamour (if you’ve watched Social Network, you’ll know what I mean), part ego and well the biggest reason; I thought building a Zuckerberg-esque Silicon Valley startup was the only way to build a company. That’s until I found the idea of bootstrapping and calm businesses which gave me a whole new perspective. And has shaped how I build 100 days for the better! Whilst many VC backed companies have steam rolled ahead of us, our “slowness” has helped us make decisions with a longer term view. That’s why this piece really resonated with me and articulated our way of being for the past 4 years - I just didn’t have a name for it. Now I do. We’re an elephant.
